Celebrate Independence Day In Style and Fireworks Eye Safety Month
Our office will be closed on July 4th in observance of Independence Day.
Fireworks are a beloved part of many celebrations, but it's important to remember that they can also be dangerous if not handled properly. Here are some tips to keep your eyes safe while enjoying fireworks:
Keep a safe distance: The farther you are from the fireworks, the safer your eyes will be. Follow the recommended distance guidelines for each type of firework.
Wear protective eyewear: If you are handling fireworks, make sure to wear protective eyewear to shield your eyes from any flying debris or sparks.
Don't look directly at the fireworks: Looking directly at the fireworks can cause temporary or even permanent vision loss. Instead, look at the reflection of the fireworks in a pool of water or on a screen.
Don't try to relight "dud" fireworks: If a firework doesn't go off, don't try to relight it. Instead, wait at least 20 minutes and then soak it in a bucket of water before disposing of it.
Seek medical attention if necessary: If you experience any eye pain or vision changes after being exposed to fireworks, seek medical attention immediately.
By following these simple precautions, you can enjoy the beauty of fireworks without putting your eyes at risk.
